Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) is a public sector organisation established by government and responsible for planning and delivering geological disposal in the UK. For over 30 years they have been carrying out research and development into geological disposal. They also work with the companies that produce radioactive waste to help them safely package their waste now so that it will be suitable to go into a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) in the future, helping to protect people and the environment.
Cumbria Association of Local Councils (CALC) is a not-for-profit membership organisation, representing, training and advising the parish (including town) councils of Cumbria, who form the grass roots tier of local government in England. They offer members a resource of important, operational information and facilitate communication at all levels of the parish network - district, county, regional and national.
Inspira is a leading employability skills expert, providing free, professional careers information advice and guidance to people in Cumbria.
They help local people into work, improve their skills and open new opportunities. Thier aim is to support disadvantaged people, help local communities to reduce inequalities which in turn will influence healthier, safer, and more sustainable local economies.
Cumbria Youth Alliance is the lead organisation for the development and quality assurance of youth provision where all young people in Cumbria can thrive to achieve a sustainable and positive future.
Adrian is a West Cumbria based businessman who has delivered research, development and innovation programmes over the past 18 years, most recently leading projects at NUVIA UK. He is currently a Parish Councillor, and has previously been a District Councillor, School Governor, a member of both Cockermouth and Maryport Round Table’s and a member of local amateur operatics groups.
Phil spent 20 years in civil engineering construction and consultancy before joining the nuclear industry with senior roles at Nirex, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and NuGen. Since 2011 he has operated independently on strategic and radioactive waste management consultancy activities in UK and internationally. He is also active in activities centring around Lake District geology and Rotary. Phil is an advocate for deep-rooted community involvement in any prospective geological disposal initiative based on a long-term socio-economic vision.
John is CEO at Workington based firm TSP Engineering and has previously held senior positions across other industries including nuclear, civil, defence and manufacturing. He currently serves on the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership Board and Chairs the Advanced Manufacturing Sector Panel. He is also the Chair of Workington Towns Board securing £23 million for the Town, Cumbria County Council Infrastructure Recovery Programme (IRP) and Shadow Board IRP. He has lived and worked in Asia, USA, Mexico, the UK and Ireland.
Lucas is currently studying Natural Sciences at Durham University. He said “Joining the partnership was of great interest to me. I endeavour to connect the community of Cumbria, and make their voices heard when it comes to GDF”.
Roy Hobson is a local independent member who moved here having lived and worked all his life in areas like Allerdale. He has been involved in community regeneration, environmental improvement and education for many years. Roy joined the CP because he wanted to make a positive contribution, making sure that local voices are heard and that there are opportunities for all to enjoy a rewarding life.
