Workington Community Boxing Academy were awarded £10,000 to support the setup of a new non-profit academy.
The project aims to welcome all age groups off the streets and into exercise, encouraging healthier living, competition, purpose, direction and good ethics, through the discipline of boxing, as well as bringing local talent through the grass roots amateur boxing system, with the support of volunteers.
The Academy will also be looking at long term projects such as working with the police and probation services to work with youth offenders in an effort to curb anti-social behaviour and crime and will branch out to work with people with disabilities and illnesses such as Parkinson’s.
Once established, the club will be affiliated to Boxing England.
