Workington Community Emergency Response Group were awarded £20,000 in 2022 and £25,000 in 2023 towards their ‘Food Parcels’ project which has run each December since 2020.
In 2022 Workington Community Emergency Response Group provided Christmas food parcels to over 600 disadvantaged families in the area.
The parcels include fresh vegetables, turkey (there is also a vegetarian option), stuffing, gravy, crisps, desserts, crackers, tin foil, crackers, and cheese. Leaflets are also included advising people where to access help with food, such as food pantries and food banks, along with debt advice from housing associations and Citizens Advice.
A Christmas card is also included in the parcel detailing funders and organisations involved in the delivery of the project.
