Workington Cricket Club were awarded a grant of £6,350 to facilitate preliminary investigations for extension of their clubhouse. The extension would include a single storey extension to the existing building, creating a female/inclusive changing room and meeting room.
One of the biggest barriers to people, and in particular women and girls, participating in sport is a lack of suitable changing and sanitary facilities.
Insights gained from the Cricket Club Survey undertaken by the England Cricket Board in 2019 found that the provision of decent changing facilities could have a significant impact on how clubs are used socially as well as encouraging more people into the game.
This feasibility and preparation work to upgrade club facilities will ultimately enhance the club’s existing offering and make cricket more accessible and welcoming, particularly to women and girls.
